Travels with Ziggy

Lost Coast - Aug-Sept 2025

Our first big trip with Ziggy extended from mid August to the end of September 2025. It was centered around the Lost Coast of northern California, the coast from Fort Brag to Ferndale. It's the corner of northwest California coast where no paved roads traverse north/south. Very unknown and "lost" area of the Emerald Triangle. Who wouldn't want to go there?

But the Lost Coast is some 100 miles plus side trips. We must extend. So we spent time in the Sierras on the way to the coast. Then after the Lost Coast we continued up the Oregon Coast to Reedsport and inland along the Smith River. Some very small less than secondary roads to Roseburg. Turning back into normal tourists we followed Hwy 138 to Diamond Lake, through Crater Lake NP and to the best stop of the trip, Four Mile lake.

Winding down but not done we stopped in Klamath Falls for a 'doodle gathering before shooting to Weed, CA for another 'doodle meetup. A few days going through McCloud, Harlow Place & Hat Creek to Susanville. From Susanville we got back on dirt going north of Honey Lake through Zenobia and along Pyramid Lake to Fernley and Lahontan SP. Denise found Icky Fish on the map and it was on the way south, kinda. Back on dirt from Eastgate (off Hwy 50) south to Ione and Icky Fish. Finally west to Gabbs and civilization.

Not much excitement from Gabbs south. Did spend a couple of days at Valley of Fire before shooting home to Prescott.

Let's take it in sections as it'll get too long otherwise.

All in all too much driving, not enough hiking/exploring. Next time less miles and more time. But it was an adventure to finally see some of the Lost Coast. A wonderful trip which we highly recomment.
